Southern & Northern Ghats

Explore the quieter extremes of Varanasi's 7-kilometer riverfront. These outer ghats offer distinct architecture and more space than the busy central hubs.

Varanasi features between 84 and 88 ghats lining the western bank of the Ganges River. While the central area draws massive evening crowds, the northern and southern edges serve different daily functions.

You will find the daily morning rituals at the southern end and modern, spacious promenades at the northern limit. Most private motorboat tours cover this entire stretch from end to end in 1.5 to 2 hours.
